Dave Hawthorne

David D. Hawthorne - Certified Public Accountant
President

Dave is the president and owner of Hawthorne & Company, CPAs. He joined the firm in November 1981 as a staff accountant, was admitted as a shareholder in 1987 and acquired the firm in 1991. He is a 1980 graduate of Washington State University earning a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting and Marketing. Prior to joining the firm he worked with Washington State Department of Revenue as a Revenue Auditor.

Dave has a wide variety of experience in accounting, management and tax services dealing with closely held companies, individuals, estates, trusts, and not-for-profits organizations. Work experience includes auditing, accounting, business advisory and tax services for businesses, and tax, retirement and estate planning for individuals.

Dave has been a frequent volunteer speaker for Boeing Educational Services teaching retirement and tax planning strategies. He has been a featured guest several times on “Minding Your Business” on KVI 570 AM, and has spoken to a variety of business, community and civic groups on estate, trust, retirement and tax planning issues.

Dave is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants (WSCPA), the PCPS – AICPA Alliance for CPA Firms, and a Charter Member of South King County Estate Planning Council.

Dave and the firm have received several awards. He was named as Highline School District Vocational Education Employer of the Year in 1990. The SW King County Chamber of Commerce selected the firm as Professional Firm of the Year in 1992. Dave was selected by the Chamber of Commerce as Small Businessperson of the Year in 1993 and was nominated for a second time in 1999. In 1995, the ARC of King County bestowed the firm with the Award of Friendship for 25 years of service to the organization. In 2005, the Washington Society of CPAs named the firm a Top 100 Company. In 2011, he was selected by Seattle Magazine as a Five Star Wealth Manager.

Chuck Turner

Charles S. Turner - Certified Public Accountant
Senior Advisor

Chuck received his CPA Certificate in 1971. He has been in public practice since that time and has owned his own practice from 1978 forward. He has extensive experience in accounting, management and tax services dealing with corporations, partnerships, individuals, trusts and estates. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Chuck joined Hawthorne & Company in 1999 by associating his firm with ours. He serves clients from both the Burien office and an office in Auburn.

Chuck is involved in many church, civic and community activities. He has served on the boards of directors and held leadership positions in numerous organizations including: Kent Chamber of Commerce, Kent Downtown Partnership (an association of government, business and community leaders), SKCAC Industries (a sheltered workshop for physically and mentally disabled adults) and Kiwanis. He coaches youth baseball for the Auburn Parks Program.

Chuck was born and raised on a farm in Boise, Idaho. He has lived in the Des Moines and Auburn areas with his wife of 40 years for most of their married life. They have two adult children and five grandchildren. He greatly enjoys his family, friends, church activities, golf and travel.

Glen Harlow

Glen A. Harlow - Certified Public Accountant
Manager Accountant

Glen Harlow is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants. He obtained his Accounting degree (summa cum laude) from Washington State University in 2003, and immediately joined Hawthorne & Co. Previously, he earned Bachelor and Masters degrees in Agricultural Economics from WSU. He obtained a law degree from George Washington University, Washington, D.C., in 1981.

Glen has extensive experience in business, having participated in management of a law firm and in his family’s farming operation. He has been a Peace Corps volunteer and he also served in the U.S. Navy.

Glen enjoys working with business clients and individuals in all facets of accounting and business planning. Originally from Pullman, Washington, Glen currently resides in Burien, Washington.

Holly Coffman

Holly Coffman - Certified Public Accountant
Senior Accountant

Holly joined Hawthorne & Company, CPAs as a staff accountant in 2008. She received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Central Washington University in 2007 and obtained her CPA certification in 2011.

Her duties at Hawthorne & Co. include financial accounting and auditing, income tax preparation for corporate, partnership and individual clients, payroll and business tax preparation, accounting and tax research, and estate tax preparation.

Holly was raised in Snohomish and currently resides in SeaTac.

Amie Bennett

Amie Kidane - Senior Accountant

Amie received her Associate of Science with Emphasis in Accounting in 2005 from Highline Community College and her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Central Washington University in 2007. She is working towards her CPA certification.

Amie joined Hawthorne & Co. in 2006 as a Staff Accountant. Her duties at Hawthorne & Co. include financial accounting and auditing, income tax preparation for corporate, partnership and individual clients, payroll and business tax preparation, accounting and tax research, and estate tax preparation.

Amie was born and raised in Seattle and currently makes her home in SeaTac.

Thomas Brown

Thomas E. Brown - Staff Accountant

Thomas received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Central Washington University in 2010. He is currently working towards his CPA certification.

Thomas joined Hawthorne & Co. in 2012 as a Staff Accountant. His duties at Hawthorne & Co. include financial accounting and auditing, income tax preparation for corporate, partnership and individual clients, payroll and business tax preparation, accounting and tax research, and estate tax preparation.

Ariana Demel

Ariana Demel - Staff Accountant

Ariana obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting from the University of Washington, Tacoma in 2011. She joined Hawthorne & Co. in 2012 and is currently working towards her CPA certification.

Her duties at Hawthorne & Co. include financial accounting and auditing, income tax preparation for corporate, partnership and individual clients, payroll and business tax preparation, accounting and tax research, and estate tax preparation.

In her free time, Ariana enjoys cooking, reading and cross-stitching. She currently lives in Seattle.

Michael Knowles

Michael Knowles - Staff Accountant

Michael attended Washington State University where he received a Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting in 2010, and a Masters of Accounting in 2011. He is currently working towards his CPA certification.

Michael joined Hawthorne & Co. in 2011. His prior business experience includes retail management, and asset protection.

His duties at Hawthorne & Co. include financial accounting and auditing, income tax preparation for corporate, partnership and individual clients, payroll and business tax preparation, accounting and tax research, and estate tax preparation.

Michael is originally from the Yakima Valley and currently lives in Federal Way with his wife.

Trevor Kunkel

Trevor Kunkel - Staff Accountant

Trevor received his Associates Degree in Business from Everett Community College in 2008 and his Bachelors in Accounting from University of Washington Bothell campus in 2011. He is currently working towards his CPA certification.

Trevor joined Hawthorne & Co in 2012 as a Staff Accountant. His duties include financial accounting and auditing, payroll and business tax preparation, and income tax preparation for corporate, partnership and individual clients.

Some of his hobbies include camping, hiking, watching movies, playing sports and occasionally going surfing.

Holly Coffman

Taylor McEuen - Staff Accountant

Taylor obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting from the University of Washington, Tacoma in 2010. He joined Hawthorne & Co. in the fall of that same year and is currently working towards his CPA certification.

Taylor’s previous accounting experience includes individual income tax preparation with exposure to corporate and partnership tax preparation. He also has experience in tax research, payroll and business tax preparation and financial statement preparation.

His duties at Hawthorne & Co. include financial accounting and auditing, income tax preparation for corporate, partnership and individual clients, payroll and business tax preparation, accounting and tax research, and estate tax preparation.

In his free time, Taylor likes to spend time with his family and friends. Some of his hobbies include watching movies, listening to music, reading, playing tennis, and camping.

G. Singh

Gursharnjit Singh - Staff Accountant

Gursharnjit, also known as “G”, joined Hawthorne & Co. in 2008. He received his Associate in Applied Arts with emphasis on Accounting in 2006 from Green River Community College and his Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 2008 from Central Washington University. He is currently working toward his CPA certification.

His duties at Hawthorne & Co. include financial accounting and auditing, income tax preparation for corporate, partnership, and individual clients, payroll and business tax preparation, accounting and tax research and estate tax preparation.

Gursharnjit was born and raised in Punjab, India and currently resides in Kent.

Sarah Smith

Sarah E. Nicol - Staff Accountant

Sarah obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting from Pacific Lutheran University in 2009.

Sarah joined Hawthorne & Co in 2011. Prior to joining Hawthorne & Co. she worked for the Washington State Department of Revenue as a Revenue Auditor. She is currently working on obtaining her CPA certification.

Her duties at Hawthorne & Co. include financial accounting and auditing, income tax preparation for corporate, partnership and individual clients, payroll and business tax preparation, accounting and tax research, and estate tax preparation.

In her free time, Sarah likes to spend time with her family and friends. Some of her hobbies include trying out groupons, sewing, pilates and kickboxing, and cooking.

Susan Owen

Susan Owen - Bookkeeper

Susan joined Hawthorne & Co. in 1978. She provided full time bookkeeping services, but took a leave to raise her family. Upon returning she joined our Administrative team for a number of years but has now returned to the Accounting team doing bookkeeping services. She is responsible for preparation of various State and Payroll taxes and a variety of support services to the staff accountants.

Crissy Pryor

Crissy Pryor - Office Administrator

Crissy joined Hawthorne & Co. in 2001 as an Administrative Assistant and in 2007 was promoted to Office Administrator. She is responsible for overseeing day-to-day front office operations, as well as providing administrative support between staff and clients. Her additional duties include financial and tax report production, clerical, reception and assisting with accounts receivable.

Shannon Hawthorne

Tara Shoemaker - Administrative Assistant

Tara joined Hawthorne & Co. in January 2011. She is responsible for scheduling client meetings, maintaining a multi-line phone system, creating and updating client files, production of financial and tax reports and providing clerical services. Tara was raised in Renton and currently resides in Kent with her fiancé and 2 children.
