David D. Hawthorne - President
Certified Public Accountant

Dave is the president and owner of Hawthorne & Company, CPAs. He joined the firm in November 1981 as a staff accountant, was admitted as a shareholder in 1987 and acquired the firm in 1991. He is a 1980 graduate of Washington State University earning a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting and Marketing. Prior to joining the firm he worked with Washington State Department of Revenue as a Revenue Auditor.

Dave has a wide variety of experience in accounting, management and tax services dealing with closely held companies, individuals and not-for-profits organizations. Work experience includes auditing, accounting, business advisory and tax services for businesses, and tax, retirement and estate planning for individuals.

Dave has been a frequent volunteer speaker for Boeing Educational Services teaching retirement and tax planning strategies. He has been a featured guest several times on “Minding Your Business” on KVI 570 AM, and has spoken to a variety of business, community and civic groups on estate, trust, retirement and tax planning issues.

Dave is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants (WSCPA), and the PCPS – AICPA Alliance for CPA Firms.

Dave and the firm have received several awards. He was named as Highline School District Vocational Education Employer of the Year in 1990. The SW King County Chamber of Commerce selected the firm as Professional Firm of the Year in 1992. Dave was selected by the Chamber of Commerce as Small Businessperson of the Year in 1993 and was nominated for a second time in 1999. In 1995, the ARC of King County bestowed the firm with the Award of Friendship for 25 years of service to the organization. In 2005, the Washington Society of CPAs named the firm a Top 100 Company.

Dave is very involved in community service having served or currently serving on several boards of local organizations. He is Past President and Treasurer of Highline Community Hospital Foundation and Past President, Treasurer and Scholarship Chairman of the Rotary Club of Burien/White Center. He serves as Board Chairman for the Highline YMCA, President of Epsilon Gamma Foundation, and a member of the Highline School District Work-Based Learning Advisory Board. He has also served as a Board Member and Swim Team Coordinator for the Normandy Park Swim Club, Treasurer of Highline Citizens for Schools and Director of SW King County Chamber of Commerce. He is a Charter Member of Burien Jaycees and served as a Boy Scout Leader for Pack 363 & Troop 392, and has been an Assistant Coach and Umpire for the South Highline National Little League.

Dave is a native of Seattle living in Normandy Park with his family. He enjoys family activities, golf and classic cars.

Charles S. Turner - Certified Public Accountant
Senior Advisor

Chuck received his CPA Certificate in 1971. He has been in public practice since that time and has owned his own practice from 1978 forward. He has extensive experience in accounting, management and tax services dealing with corporations, partnerships, individuals, trusts and estates. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Chuck joined Hawthorne & Company in 1999 by associating his firm with ours. He serves clients from both the Burien office and an office in Auburn.

Chuck is involved in many church, civic and community activities. He has served on the boards of directors and held leadership positions in numerous organizations including: Kent Chamber of Commerce, Kent Downtown Partnership (an association of government, business and community leaders), SKCAC Industries (a sheltered workshop for physically and mentally disabled adults) and Kiwanis. He coaches youth baseball for the Auburn Parks Program.

Chuck was born and raised on a farm in Boise, Idaho. He has lived in the Des Moines and Auburn areas with his wife of 40 years for most of their married life. They have two adult children and five grandchildren. He greatly enjoys his family, friends, church activities, golf and travel.

Glen A. Harlow - Certified Public Accountant

Glen Harlow is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants. He obtained his Accounting degree (summa cum laude) from Washington State University in 2003, and immediately joined Hawthorne & Co. Previously, he earned Bachelor and Masters degrees in Agricultural Economics from WSU. He obtained a law degree from George Washington University, Washington, D.C., in 1981.

Glen has extensive experience in business, having participated in management of a law firm and in his family’s farming operation. He has been a Peace Corps volunteer and he also served in the U.S. Navy.

Glen enjoys working with business clients and individuals in all facets of accounting and business planning. Originally from Pullman, Washington, Glen currently resides in Burien, Washington.

Lian Rita Handaja - Senior Accountant

Lian received her Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from the University of Indonesia in 1998 and earned a Masters of Business Administration from Western Washington University in 2001. She is a CPA Candidate.

Lian joined Hawthorne & Company, CPAs in 2001 as a staff accountant. She is a member of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Lian brings to her position experience as a business entrepreneur having owned a cafe in Jakarta, Indonesia, giving her extensive insight into management and operational issues. She works with closely held businesses, homeowner associations and not for profit organizations in areas including auditing, financial statement preparation, cash management analysis and income tax preparation. She has experience in payroll and business tax preparation. She has also worked with individuals preparing federal and state income tax returns.

Lian is originally from Jakarta, Indonesia and currently makes her home in Burien, Washington.

Amie Bennett- Staff Accountant

Amie received her Associate of Science with Emphasis in Accounting in 2005 from Highline Community College and her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Central Washington University in 2007. She is working towards her Master’s in Accounting and CPA certification.

Amie joined Hawthorne & Company, CPAs in 2006 as a Staff Accountant. Her previous business experience includes individual tax preparation, as well as exposure to small business accounting.

Her duties at Hawthorne & Co. include financial accounting and auditing, income tax preparation for corporate, partnership and individual clients, payroll and business tax preparation, accounting and tax research, and estate tax preparation.
Amie was born and raised in Seattle and currently makes her home in Burien, Washington.

Melissa Buckingham - Staff Accountant

Melissa joined Hawthorne & Company, CPAs as a staff accountant in July of 2008. She will receive her Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Accounting from the University of Washington. Melissa will then continue working towards a CPA certification. She is a member of the Seattle chapter American Society of Women Accountants (ASWA).

Her duties at Hawthorne & Co. include financial accounting and auditing, income tax preparation for corporate, partnership and individual clients, payroll and business tax preparation, accounting and tax research, and estate tax preparation.

Melissa was born and raised in West Seattle. She has recently returned from North Dakota where she played college basketball for Mayville State University.

Massinia Chong - Staff Accountant

Massinia joined Hawthorne & Company, CPAs as a staff accountant in June 2007. Massinia has worked in the public accounting since 2002. She has extensive experience in preparation of corporation, partnership, and individual tax return. She works closely with corporate clients as well as individuals to help them with tax issues and general business tax planning.

Massinia earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of Washington in 1993.

Holly Coffman - Staff Accountant

Holly joined Hawthorne & Company, CPAs as a staff accountant in 2008. She received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Central Washington University in 2007 and is currently working toward her CPA certification.

Her duties at Hawthorne & Co. include financial accounting and auditing, income tax preparation for corporate, partnership and individual clients, payroll and business tax preparation, accounting and tax research, and estate tax preparation.

Putri Dariani - Staff Accountant

Putri joined Hawthorne & Company, CPAs in 2008 as a staff accountant.  Putri graduated from Seattle University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration Degree, double major in Accounting and E-Commerce and Information Systems. She is a CPA Candidate.

While a student, she participated in EITC Tax Campaign assisting with tax returns for the low-income community. Her previous business experience includes an accounting internship with a private company in her home country, Indonesia. Her duties at Hawthorne & Co. include financial accounting and auditing, income tax preparation for corporate, partnership and individual clients, payroll and business tax preparation, accounting and tax research, and estate tax preparation.

Putri was born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia, and is currently residing in Seattle, Washington.

Aki Hagimoto - Staff Accountant

Aki joined Hawthorne & Company, CPAs as a staff accountant in 2008.  He will receive his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Central Washington University.  Currently, he is working towards a CPA certification with hopes of 2009 completion.

His duties at Hawthorne & Co. include financial accounting and auditing, income tax preparation for corporate, partnership and individual clients, payroll and business tax preparation, accounting and tax research, and estate tax preparation. Aki is a member of the WSCPA.

Aki volunteers his time on a semi-pro football team, the King County Jaguars. His hobbies include both watching/playing sports, such as football, baseball and basketball. He is a big fan of both the Seattle Mariners and Seattle Seahawks. Also enjoys playing golf in his free time and hopes to participate in an organized league. 

He was born and raised in Seattle, currently resides in Auburn, WA.

Bonnie Putnam - Certified Public Accountant
Staff Accountant

Bonnie joined Hawthorne & Company in 2007 and is a Certified Public Accountant. She received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Central Washington University in 2003.

Youwei Todd - Staff Accountant

Youwei received her Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from the University of Washington, Tacoma in 2006. She previously received her Bachelor of Law from Liaoning University in 1994. She is a CPA Candidate.

Youwei joined Hawthorne & Company, CPAs in 2007 as a staff accountant. Her previous business experience includes a staff tax accountant position in a private accounting services firm, as well as exposure to international business accounting. Her duties at Hawthorne & Co. include financial accounting and auditing, income tax preparation for corporate, partnership and individual clients, payroll and business tax preparation, accounting and tax research, and estate tax preparation.

Youwei was born and raised in China and currently is residing in Federal Way, Washington.

Crissy Pryor - Office Administrator

Crissy first joined Hawthorne & Co. in January 2001. As Office Administrator, she handles financial and tax report production, clerical, reception and front office administration. Crissy was born in California and lived in Texas before moving to Washington State. She currently resides in Auburn, WA with her husband and two children.

Bonnie Buchanan - Administrative Assistant

Bonnie joined Hawthorne & Co. in January 2008. As Administrative Assistant, she handles financial and tax report production, clerical, and reception. Bonnie was born and raised in Washington and currently resides in Auburn, WA with her son.

Bonnie has earned a Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate from Renton Technical College in 1996.

Susan Owen - Administrative Assistant

Susan joined Hawthorne & Company, CPAs in 1978 as a bookkeeper. She worked full-time for 14 years, then part-time for 5 years after the birth of her first child. Susan has returned the last few years to assist in the clerical department during tax season. She is a native of Seattle, Washington and currently lives in Des Moines, Washington with her husband and children.
